Overview
A 3-day safari to both Tsavo East National Park and Amboseli National Park from Diani Beach would be an amazing experience! You’ll get to explore two of Kenya’s iconic parks, each with unique landscapes and wildlife. Here’s a suggested itinerary for your trip:
Day 1: Diani Beach to Tsavo East National Park
- Early Morning Departure: The safari begins early in the morning, where you’ll be picked up from your hotel in Diani Beach. The drive to Tsavo East takes around 4-5 hours, depending on traffic and road conditions.
- Arrive at Tsavo East: After reaching the park, you'll check into your lodge or camp. There are a few great options in the park, such as Voi Safari Lodge, Sentrim Tsavo East, or Ashnil Aruba Lodge.
- Afternoon Game Drive: Head out for an afternoon game drive in the park, known for its large herds of elephants, red elephants (from the dust they bathe in), and a variety of other wildlife like lions, giraffes, zebras, and more.
- Evening at the Lodge/Camp: After the game drive, you return to your accommodation for dinner and some rest.
Day 2: Tsavo East to Amboseli National Park
- Morning Game Drive: Start the day early with a morning game drive to spot more wildlife and experience the park at its most active.
- Breakfast and Checkout: After the game drive, return to the lodge for breakfast, then check out and start the drive to Amboseli National Park, which is about a 3-4 hour drive.
- Arrive at Amboseli: After you arrive at Amboseli, you’ll check in at your accommodation. Some popular options include Ol Tukai Lodge, Amboseli Serena Safari Lodge, or Kibo Safari Camp.
- Afternoon Game Drive in Amboseli: After settling in, take a game drive in Amboseli, famous for its stunning views of Mount Kilimanjaro, Africa's tallest peak. This park is also known for its large herds of elephants and a great diversity of wildlife, including lions, cheetahs, and various bird species.
- Evening at the Lodge/Camp: After the drive, enjoy a relaxing evening with dinner at your lodge.
Day 3: Amboseli National Park and Return to Diani Beach
- Early Morning Game Drive: On your last day, take an early morning game drive in Amboseli for another opportunity to see wildlife and perhaps get those breathtaking photos of elephants against the backdrop of Mount Kilimanjaro.
- Breakfast and Checkout: Return to your lodge for breakfast, check out, and begin your journey back to Diani Beach. The drive back will take about 5–6 hours, so you’ll likely arrive by late afternoon or early evening.
Additional Tips for the Trip:
- What to Pack: Light and breathable clothes for the day, a light jacket for early morning/evening drives, sunglasses, sunscreen, a hat, and plenty of water. Also, don’t forget your camera for the wildlife!
- Wildlife: Expect to see elephants, lions, leopards, cheetahs, giraffes, zebras, and numerous bird species. Amboseli is particularly famous for its elephant herds and stunning views of Kilimanjaro.
- Weather: Both parks can be hot and dry, especially in the afternoons, but early mornings and evenings can be cooler.
